Leadership Oklahoma’s 31st adult class completed its 10-month journey this past weekend in Guymon. At commencement, they vowed to be actively engaged in serving our state and participating in LOK. As always, it has been a very informative year with lively discussions but also a lot of fun. I know that everyone joins me in welcoming the members of Class 31 to the LOK network.

As has been the tradition since Class I, a new Golden Bull Award winner was selected. Victoria Tracey, Managing Director, Accenture, is the latest honoree of the coveted award. Victoria was presented the award by Jodi Cline, Class XXVI and Lifetime Member, 2017-2018 Adult Program Chair.

Do you know the story behind this unique award? This is what I have heard: Sharon Gotcher Adams, LOK Class I, decided that an award needed to be created to recognize someone in the class who was fearless, not afraid to ask difficult questions and willing to take risks. Sharon designed the first Golden Bull in her McAlester art studio and continued to make the award for 24 years from the original mold. Then the mold was passed down to Shahla Rahimi-Reynolds, Class XVI, who lovingly made the precious bull in her home studio for Class XXV, XXVI and XXVII. Before Shahla moved to California, she brought the mold to the office and we were challenged to find a new artist to help us carry on the tradition. Allyson reached out to All Fired Up in Yukon and Kelli Haan agreed to use the original mold and make our coveted award. (While Kelli is not a member of LOK, her father David Miller was in Class I!)

The first Golden Bull was presented by Class I to Sue Ann Hyde during their class session in McAlester. They had just finished listening to Speaker Carl Albert after dinner at Pete’s Place. It is hard for me to imagine they unveiled the Golden Bull in the presence of such an outstanding Oklahoman! I also doubt they knew they were creating such a significant LOK tradition.

Congratulations to Victoria, the 31st winner of the Golden Bull, and the others honored before her:
