NEW is the word of the month. Such a little word that can mean so many different things. Exciting, fearful of the unknown, intimidating, hesitant, fun; each feeling valid and changing depending on the time in your life (or even the time of the day). Leaders have the ability to convert the anxiety and intimidation to excitement by rising to the occasion and performing rather than remaining too still; not moving.

Enjoy the moment knowing life is always constant, always NEW. Decide to put the word NEW in the exciting category. Decide to connect with the wonderful members of Leadership Oklahoma and foster NEW friendships (or reNEW old ones)! The NEW year brings 12 NEW chapters…write them, live them, enjoy them.

Samonia Byford
2017-2018 Membership Chair | LOK Ambassadors Chair
Class XX and Lifetime Member

The LOK Ambassadors challenged their classes and man, did you respond generously! Based upon the End of the Year “$30.00 in 30 Days to Celebrate 31 Years” Campaign participation, CLASS 30 is officially the 2017 Best Class Ever. And, with 30 members of CLASS 30 donating $4,520, they are also recognized as the 2017 Most Generous Class.

Congratulations to everyone who chose to support Leadership Oklahoma with a financial gift at the end of 2017.

Challenge. Accepted. Challenge. Successful.

For those of you who like to pay on a calendar year, it’s not too late to pay your annual membership! As a reminder, your annual investment is $150 (in state), $25 (out-of-state), or $2,500 for a lifetime membership. LOK is continuing the three-payment options to become a lifetime member. Option 1: one-time payment of $2,500. Option 2: four quarterly payments of $625 (beginning July 1, 2017). Option 3: eight quarterly payments of $312.50 (beginning July 1, 2017).

By renewing your membership, you are investing in the mission of LOK; investing in Oklahoma; investing in the youth of our state; investing in educating our leadership; investing in networking/social opportunities to provide that human connection.

Class I has proven that it’s never too late to be a lifetime member; three of them paid for lifetime memberships in the last few years!

LOK Class 32 Applications are now available on the LOK website! Please encourage people you think would be interested in applying for the next class. As an LOK alum, please help spread the word. Word-of-mouth is our most effective recruitment strategy, and LOK’s friends and alumni are our best recruitment resource. We need you to share your LOK experience within your networks and beyond. If you know promising candidates, talk with them about your LOK story, point them to the LOK Program page of our website for more details, and be sure to complete a Class 32 Nomination Form so we can follow up.

NEW! Please click HERE for a Class 32 nominating form, and encourage those you know to consider completing the application and investing in the LOK life changing adventure. Self-nominations are also encouraged! When the Application for Selection becomes available, we will contact you and/or your nominee with an application packet and a personal invitation to apply. This feature will be open throughout the year should you connect with someone who would be a good candidate to apply.

Recruitment chair: Marnie Taylor, Class XXIV

We want to help! If you connect with prospective candidates or if you have questions about the LOK program, please let us know. Contact LOK President and CEO Marion Paden at so we can support your outreach or share more information.

"Helping Oklahoma" is a program developed to further Leadership Oklahoma’s mission to create, inspire and support leaders whose commitment to service energizes Oklahomans to shape our state’s future. It is designed to recognize Oklahoma volunteers who go above and beyond to make a difference in their communities and/or Oklahoma.

This is your opportunity to nominate a volunteer in your community who makes the kind of positive difference that deserves to be recognized. If selected as the winner, your nominee will receive a $2,500 prize to be donated to the charity of his/her choice.

The contest continues to evolve with the ultimate goal of honoring the everyday citizen for having a servant’s heart. The honoree will be recognized at the February 21, 2018 Spring Summit in Oklahoma City.
