September has become a busy month for many of us - kids in school, football season kicking off, work events or traveling for work, and the list goes on and on. Juggling our lives takes DETERMINATION - a lasered focus on the challenges and accomplishments we face each week.

We became a part of Leadership Oklahoma with a determination to make this state a more prosperous place to live and work. Individually, this network of leaders is doing this each and every day. Collectively, this purposefulness can change the landscape of our state as we stay determined to listen to all sides and find the middle ground through compromise.

Keep up the good work and connect with others this upcoming year!

 2017-2018 Membership Events

Past LOK Member Events

Thank you to our members who were intentional and came to a past LOK event. Connecting, networking and educational!

It's Electric: Frankly My Dear, You Should Give a Dam!
September 13-14, 2017

Dress: Casual/Business Casual

Thank you to Chris Meyers, Class XXVI, and Chris Kenney, Class XXII, for co-chairing the event, a huge thanks to the planning committee, our sponsors, speakers and those who took the time to attend!

Per LOK 3.0 and the membership survey, the membership wanted more regional events and more of a “class session” experience. Building on last year’s 30th Anniversary celebration in Norman, we hosted the All Class Reunion and Fall Forum at Shangri-La Resort on Grand Lake.

Wednesday morning/afternoon, there were optional activities and the evening was all about reuniting with classmates and forging new connections with others. The “Camper of the Year”, Michele Campbell (Class XXIII), was honored that evening for all her support to LOK through her time, talents and service. For more information about Michele, click here!

Thursday, we addressed the importance of our electric energy source portfolio and what the future will look like. Attendees heard from Oklahoma’s Secretary of Energy and Environment, Mr. Michael Teague who challenged us as leaders. To see his video, click here.

We heard from the experts on various sides to discuss and debate some of the electricity challenges and critical issues. The afternoon was capped off with a prestigious panel of leaders in the utility sector; Stuart Solomon (Class XIX) with PSO, Chris Meyers (Class XXVI) with the Oklahoma Association of Electric Cooperatives, Dan Sullivan with GRDA, and Keith Mitchell with OGE.

After the forum, there was another optional tour of GRDA where members rode on patrol boats or drove their cars to see the dam and the GRDA facilities.

Leaders at Sea
November 15-17, 2017
1600 Glorietta Blvd.
San Diego, CA

There are a few slots left!

If you are interested in attending or have questions, email Allyson at

During your class program, you learned about the military, experienced the “life of a soldier” at Ft. Sill and possibly took the Tinker tour when you were in Oklahoma City. From Classes XXV – 30, those classes have had the privilege of flying in a Blackhawk helicopter in Tulsa, thanks to the Air National Guard.

Now is your chance to learn about the importance of the Navy, meet with seamen to hear about life on the water, tour various ships (Destroyer (DDG), Cruiser (CG) or one of their amphibious ships), visit Naval Air Station North Island (NASNI) where the helicopters (helos) are located, take a tour of one of the squadrons, see some of the aircraft, learn what their capabilities are and potentially meet some pilots.

Last, we will visit an Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) team. These are the guys who work to disarm any type of explosive ordinance, just as you saw in the movie The Hurt Locker. Navy EOD technicians are specially trained to work underwater as well as on land, capable of disarming various underwater as well as land-based ordinance.

Friday, we will tour and have lunch at the Navy Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD), hear from the Command with an overview of NMCSD, tour the Comprehensive Combat and Complex Casualty Care Facility (C5), tour and a hands-on experience at the Bio Skills Training Center & Medical and Simulation Center.

Last, we will tour the USNS Mercy. Whether providing medical support to deployed troops or offering critical care and humanitarian assistance in the wake of tragedy, serving aboard a Navy hospital ship is one of the most unique experiences anyone in health care could hope to have. The ship is the equivalent to the height of a 10-story building and the length of three football fields!

Details on a specific itinerary will not be set until close to departure due to the unknown departures of ships, squadrons, etc. For more information, please call or email Allyson!

It will be a 4-person scramble, so don’t worry if you don’t play much (or ever). It will be a fun atmosphere to connect with other LOK members from across the state. This is a great way to recruit people to apply to LOK and meet other members.

If your class is having a reunion, please notify Allyson to be included in ENews!

"Helping Oklahoma" is a program developed to further Leadership Oklahoma’s mission to create, inspire and support leaders whose commitment to service energizes Oklahomans to shape our state’s future. It is designed to recognize Oklahoma volunteers who go above and beyond to make a difference in their communities and/or Oklahoma.

This is your opportunity to nominate a volunteer in your community who makes the kind of positive difference that deserves to be recognized. If selected as the winner, your nominee will receive a $2,500 prize to be donated to the charity of his/her choice.

The contest continues to evolve with the ultimate goal of honoring the everyday citizen for having a servant’s heart.

It’s never too soon to start thinking of volunteers to nominate! Deadline to submit nominations is February 8, 2018.
